DoD STARBASE Pensacola STEM Education Program Receives Generous Donation from Florida Power & Light Company

PENSACOLA, FLA. (September 1, 2022) – Florida Power & Light Company donates $50,000 to DoD STARBASE Pensacola which offers fifth-grade students at Title 1 schools throughout Escambia County the opportunity to attend five days, 25-hour STEM classes that focus on various science, technology, engineering, and mathematic topics.

“This gift will go directly to supporting local Escambia County School District Fifth graders, who would not otherwise have an opportunity to attend an entire week of “hands on” STEM classroom instruction in a facility that’s as unique and awesome as AMBITION – the themed “schoolhouse” we use for NFA and STARBASE. This gift from FPL (Florida Power & Light Company) personifies the strength of partnerships that STARBASE and the National Flight Academy, under the umbrella of the Northwest Florida STEM Center of Excellence, has within our local community,” said Rear Admiral Kyle Cozad, USN (Ret), President & CEO, Naval Aviation Museum Foundation.

“Our team at FPL believes supporting education is the key to a brighter future and it is the cornerstone that breaks down barriers and opens the door of possibilities for today’s students and future generations,” said Juliet Roulhac, director of corporate philanthropy and community engagement for FPL. “STEM programs can lead to future careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math and we hope that some of the students who are able to attend AMBITION through our grant will one day join us as teammates at FPL or find promising careers in other companies throughout Florida.”

About the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation

The Naval Aviation Museum Foundation is the nonprofit, 501(c)(3), sole benefactor to the National Naval Aviation Museum—and the fuel that allows the museum to take flight. The Foundation is responsible for funding all museum operation, expansion, and activity. The Foundation works diligently to raise funding through gifts and memberships. All funding, aside from Foundation staffing and operational costs, goes to the operation, maintenance and enhancement of the museum, including museum expansion, aircraft preservation, conservation and maintenance, development of new exhibits and support of day to day functions—including custodial services, marketing, operation of the Museum’s various attractions (such as our Naval Aviation Memorial Giant Screen Theater, flight simulators, Blue Angels 4D Experience and Flight Deck gift shop), as well as the production of major events at the Museum. The Foundation also supports the advancement of STEM education through DoD STARBASE Title 1 program and the National Flight Academy, a cutting edge, aviation-themed learning experience.
